WHATS NEW?
==========
The WHATS.NEW file will be updated anytime there is a major change
to Rombrain. If you see a version newer than the one you have, and this
file has not been updated, it means the new release is a maintenance
release, with minor cosmetic or bug fixes. You should always have the
most current version of all Brainex Doors!
6/13/93
-------
Fixed bug in search function that allowed users without proper
access to download.
6/9/93
------
NOTE to PCBoard version 15 users:
Version 15 uses a different record structure for USERS.SYS, which
Rombrain does not currently support.
Please be sure to select option O for USERS.SYS in your Edit Doors
File area.
Main Menu -> Main Board Config -> Doors Path/Name List File -> F2
This will tell PCB to write version 14.5 of the USERS.SYS file. Also
be sure to select N for Shell, as this will provide maximum RAM for
Rombrain.
6/7/93
------
Fixed bug in CUSTOM.EXE. Last category would get stuck in a loop!
You can now use an alternate method to copy files from CD-ROM to
hard drive before a user downloads. To have Rombrain SHELL to DOS
to use DOS COPY, add DOSCOPY to the command line:
ROMBRAIN DOSCOPY
This should copy faster than Rombrain's internal copy routine, but
will NOT show the pretty copy progress bar!
5/26/93
-------
For PCBoard or GAP:
You may specify an alternate download log file name, just use the
LOG= command. Example:
ROMBRAIN LOG=CALL
The caller log file will be written to the MAIN\CALLx file, where x is
the node number. The node number is added by Rombrain. Do not add it!
5/23/93
-------
Made COMPILE.EXE work with Walnut Creek's Simtel 5/93 disk.
5/18/93
-------
Improved download/upload ratio checking.
5/11/93
-------
If you use more than 6 cd-roms, Rombrain will display a
"one moment, please" notice while checking the cd-roms to see if
they are online. This will prevent users from thinking the program
has crashed when using Rombrain with large numbers of cd-roms.
5/4/93
------
CUSTOM.EXE asks for cd-rom drive letter if unable to auto-detect.
04/21/93
--------
Download limits check more carefully during file search.
Fixed a problem with REQUEST and WWIV BBS.
04/13/93
--------
Fixed Transfer from archive problem.
Fixed PCBoard problem with unlimited offline requests.
04/07/93
--------
If the cd-rom in the player is restricted to the current caller, all
other disks will be shown off-line. (single player systems)
04/04/93
--------
Fixed REQUEST to use Rombrain's LOG OFF AFTER DOWNLOAD setting.
3/29/93
-------
Added a "copy status bar" when files are copied from cd-rom to
hard drive. This will give users something to look at while
copying large files!
3/22/93
-------
Users with security levels that do not allow downloads, may still
be able to download the list of cd-rom files.
Rombrain will not SHELL to PKZIP when creating a cdrom directory list
if free RAM is less than 200k.
3/19/93
-------
Fixed download logging, user stats updates.
3/14/93
-------
Fixed missing "\" in filenames problem some older filebases.
NOTICE.EXE will wait a predetermined time for user input. (Handy
for users with logon scripts.) Just add WAIT=x to the NOTICE command
line. Example: NOTICE SYSOP=110 WAIT=5
3/11/93
-------
PCBOARD:
NOTICE.EXE does not need the DATA=PCBOARD.SYS command line.
Set it up as a LOGIN door, writing DOOR.SYS
3/10/93
-------
Improved comport handling for non-standard port addresses.
3/8/93
------
CDCHANGE/XDISC
Improved disk access checks for either CDCHANGE or XDISC.
3/6/93
------
Updated NOTICE.EXE
3/4/93
------
Hard disk copy routines are now internal, no DOS shell used.
3/3/93
------
Problem with the Offline command reporting "directory not found" - corrected.
COREL SCSI DRIVER CDCHANGE.EXE DOS COMMAND
PIONEER XDISC.EXE COMMAND
======================================
You can now use this driver with Rombrain and the CD-ROM Jukebox.
Place a copy of CDCHANGE.EXE or XDISC.EXE in the BRAINEX directory.
EDIT the BRAINEX.INI file using an ASCII editor.
Be sure you have a work drive selected in the [ROMBRAIN] section.
Change the drive letters in the [CDROM] section.
Follow the drive letter with a forward slash / then the slot number.
Example:
cdrom drive letter=D/3
This cd-rom would be displayed as ONLINE, and would use drive D:, slot 3.
You can also set the default cd-rom the same way in the [Rombrain]
section of the BRAINEX.INI file.
Example:
default drive=D/1
Drive D:, slot 1 would be the default drive. It would always come up
as online when the user first enters Rombrain.
IMPORTANT:
Automatic online cd-rom checking is disabled when using the / option.
Be sure the correct cd-rom is in the correct slot!
MULTINODE OPERATION WITH CD-ROM CHANGERS
It is suggested that you add the WAIT command to the Rombrain command
line. This will prevent other nodes from trying to change the
cd-rom while a file is being copied to hard disk.
Example:
ROMBRAIN NODE=1 WAIT
You should use the WAIT command on all nodes.
Rombrain will create a file named NOCOPY in the BRAINEX directory.
When present, other nodes must wait until this file is deleted by
the node that is accessing the cd-rom drive. If for some reason
you rebooted the machine before this file is removed, Rombrain
will not be able to copy files. Simply delete this file to restore
normal operation.
